How Can Money be “God-in-Action”?

What is money?

We can describe money in many ways: fun to have, powerful, scarce, hard to come by, earned, dangerous, life changing, success…and on and on. However, these labels come from looking at money as simply the paper (or digital bits) it is printed on and the outcome that those bits have on our lives.

This is a little like looking at your car in frustration after it shuts down because you didn’t know the gas tank was empty.

What powers money? What is money at its very heart, its very source? Where does money originate?

Just like everything else in this physical world, money is a form of Source. All that is in your world — from the furniture in your office, to your body, to the beautiful autumn trees — is a physical representation of Source energy.

Money is simply one more form of that energy. Money is Source energy. And if it’s true that money is Source, then it is also true money is Divine love. God-in-Action.

I will admit to having a hard time with this concept in the beginning. After all, if money is Source energy, then why don’t we all have overflowing abundance? If money is God-in-Action, why do people who hurt other people receive money?

Answers to these questions could fill 10 books, but let’s start here: The amount of money we have in our lives is simply evidence of how much we allow Source energy to flow to and through us. Money follows our intentions and deepest beliefs about ourselves, our “enough-ness,” our “deservability,” and more.

Many of us believe if we figure out how to just be “good enough,” do the “right” actions, be the “right” person, think the “right” thoughts, and then we’ll be rewarded by a flow of abundance, by gifts from the Divine. In actuality, abundance and other Divine energy flows in direct proportion to what we ask for and allow ourselves to receive.

Are You Carrying Pockets of Money Shame?

How does money flow in your business?

How do you treat money in your business?

Do you pay yourself a regular salary?

Do you keep regular records?

Are these easy questions to answer? Do they trigger anything within you?

After losing a bookkeeper that I’d had for more than four years and going through the process of setting up my business records and payroll with a new company, these kinds of questions led me to discover something that I wasn’t aware of: I was carrying a couple of hidden pockets of shame about my business finances.

What? How could this be? I thought that I had “dealt” with most of my money issues when I first allowed someone else to help me with my finances.

Yet, in the process of delving more deeply into my records and getting them even more organized, layers of shame revealed themselves. Intense worries and fears surfaced about what “they would think” about decisions I made years ago. I found myself waking up at night feeling anxious.

Money feels like such a private area. This topic touches us in very vulnerable places.

But, what is so interesting to me is that when I talk to clients, I talk about how money is simply another expression of the Divine. Money is simple “God in Action.” Money is love. I know these to be Truths with my whole entire being. How could this ‘jive’ with my pockets of shame?

As I connected into the Divine and asked this very question, here is what I heard:

These pockets of shame weren’t really about the money. They were about judgment of me. Judgments about how I’ve made decisions. Judgments about how I’ve chosen to create within my business, about the ‘rules’ that I’ve created for myself. These pockets of shame showed me the places where I haven’t completely and fully accepted my gifts and how I choose to live in my business and life.

Ah, what a gift.

As I’ve given myself even deeper permission to come into full acceptance of who I am, the conversations I’m having with my new financial company are going so smoothly. I feel a new opening around receiving even more of the Divine in the form of money.

Is Your Business Pushed by Pain or Pulled by Purpose?

Take a moment, close your eyes, and inhale a deep breath. Connect with Source in whatever way feels best to you and ask yourself, “In my business, am I pushed by pain? Or pulled by purpose?”

Pushed feels like: struggle, doubt, trying, orchestrating, fear, worry, disbelief, specific outcome focused; as if business success is a mountain you are scaling with only your bare hands for assistance.

Pulled feels like: flow, alignment, uncovering, excitement, knowing, “why” focused; as if you are floating on top of river current — sometimes slow, sometimes fast, but always with support.

I’ve done both and I have to say, being pulled by purpose is ever so much more enjoyable!

Not only is being pulled by purpose filled with more joy, but it also allows you to extend your reach to so many more people.

While I don’t believe we have a checklist of activities or duties we were meant to accomplish in this lifetime, I do believe we come with specific intentions. When we allow ourselves to be in the flow of those intentions, everything clicks together so much more easily and joyously.

So, right now, in this moment of your business are you pulled or pushed?

Plant Your Own Seeds

To have a Fertile Business, you must have both fertile soil and seeds, which when planted within that soil, will yield a harvest in alignment with your lifestyle/values/goals.

I spend a lot of time in this newsletter teaching you how to tend your soil, so to speak. Helping you become aware of the thought patterns or beliefs that over-run your ability to live from your purpose. Those old patterns are weeds that can choke off anything that is starting to grow if left unattended.

What I haven’t talked about are the seeds that get planted within the soil. In terms of a Fertile Business, the seeds are your intentions and actions that will lead you to your business programs.

What is most important to know and what I think so many of us forget: You get to choose the seeds…you don’t have to, nor should you, plant the seeds that everyone else is planting. You don’t necessarily want the same harvest as everyone else.

To have a Fertile Business, before you plant any seeds you must ask yourself: What harvest will bring me the most joy? After all, if you want a crop of sunflowers, you don’t plant tomato seeds.

Some guiding questions:

Are you more jazzed by helping one person through deep transformation, or by sharing your energy with a room full of people?

Do you prefer spoken or written communication?

Are you about building community? A Message? A Brand?

Are you more about bringing the message to the people, or helping someone see how to live the message?

I could go on and on with questions, but here’s the bottom line: if you are someone who is fed by individual transformation but are following the gurus who tell you that you shouldn’t be trading dollars for hours and therefore you should only be teaching large group programs, you aren’t going to be happy with your harvest.

Maybe there will be money. Maybe there won’t. However, for certain, you are going to be drained energetically. You are going to begin questioning if you are really “cut out” for running your own business.

A Fertile Business is all about you. Take all your gifts, talents, and values into consideration first and THEN choose your seeds.

Are You “Diss-ing” Money?

What is your favorite form of abundance or prosperity?

Not the form of abundance or prosperity you NEED, but the one that is your absolute most favorite?

For me, it’s the full sense of abundance I feel when I am sitting around the dinner table with my husband and three kids. My oldest will go off to college next year and so I am soaking up the abundance of love and laughter with her every second I can.

Family is my absolute favorite form of prosperity. We all have our favorite forms, what’s yours? Prosperity of time, love, people, relationships, family, money?

However, this designation of a favorite can come at the expense of experiencing other forms of prosperity.

At the end of the day, I want to be known as a Mother. To be surrounded with love. No amount of money could ever fill me the way being a Mother does.

Ah. But there the reasoning begins to take me in a wonky direction: judgment about the types of prosperity. Mothering comes ABOVE money. This creates a huge stop sign to money saying, “No thanks, family is all I need from the Pot o’ Prosperity. I’m good.”

Not exactly the message I wish to send.

For many heart and spirit based entrepreneurs, I believe we unintentionally “diss” money. Perhaps it’s as strong as believing there’s something wrong with wanting money. However, I actually believe it’s a little more subtle than that in many cases.

We’re simply ranking how we wish to experience prosperity; feeling like perhaps we only get a couple of options. Or, that we want to make sure we get the kind that will make us the most happy and joyful.

In reality, we can have the whole Pot o’ Prosperity. Every last drop.

Having Trouble Getting “Universal” Laws to Work for You?

The law of cause and effect states that for every effect in the Universe (in other words, for every result, every situation, every happening in your life), there is a specific cause.

Like the effects in your life? Keep putting effort into the causes. Don‘t like the effects in your life? Change the causes.

How do you know what causes are the ones that will create the effects you most want? Several days ago, I listened to an audio recording from a recognized expert on Universal Laws. His definitive statement was: “…the only way to get what you want is to look for the people who have the success you want and copy exactly what they do, and then will you have the exact same success.”

Hmmm.

Now, there is NO reason to reinvent the wheel. And yes, there is a lot to learn from people who have walked the road before you.

But copy them exactly?

The pioneer in me absolutely had a fit (this description comes from Soul Language, something I’ll be sharing more with you in the weeks to come) because (A) this seems to suggest that there is someone out there who is living exactly the life you want and (B) there is only one way to meet a goal.

We are individual Souls with individual paths, desires, skills, wants, and gifts. This is the flame of our success, not copying someone else. Trying to exactly copy someone else only brings heartache and frustration, and multiple opportunities to feel “less than” or “not good enough,” or “not worthy” as your business languishes.

Of course, the Law of Cause and Effect is always in play whether you pay attention to it or not; it’s always involved in creating the world around us. Use it to your advantage by first identifying the effects YOU want, choosing from the entire abundant Universe’s buffet of time, freedom, money, love, family, abundance, service to others, travel, homes, vacations, cars, and more.

Then, be fully you. Be your gifts, be your purpose, and be your divinity. This will lead you to the causes, which will most joyfully and sustainably bring those effects into being.

Where’s Your Overnight Success?

Following successful people can be a double-edged sword.

On the one hand, they can be inspirational. On the other hand, it’s easy to fall into the trap of making the assumption they have always been what they are. Somehow, there’s this illusion that is created that they sprang, fully formed, overnight, out into the marketplace.

I’ll admit it. I’m guilty of this sometimes. I’ll become intimidated, thinking that those who are truly successful were “gifted” with the perfect message, fully formed, and ready to go. If I don’t have it right now, then there must be something wrong. Or, in my worst moments: I’m wrong about having something important to share.

And I’ve been rather guilty of this recently; it’s an issue I’ve been mulling around in my thinking mind. A lot.

Then the Universe intervened.

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a Social Justice lecture given by a professor during a college visit with my daughter. In the class, he shared the editorial history of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail.

Sounds dry, I know, but stick with me here.

This letter is a magnificent historical document; integral to the Civil Rights Movement. In the way most of us learn about it, it is presented as something that was written entirely in one sitting, from one person’s view; a magnificent download of information that changed the course of history.

In reality, it was a document that evolved through five different editorial processes.

It started out incredibly human. With errors. Without full clarity. While MLK signed off on all edits, it was influenced by a group. None of this takes away its importance in history, or the importance of MLK.

Here’s the important take away to me: it evolved. Even this magnificent document evolved. Even this incredibly connected, dynamic, nation changing person who wrote it…was human.

As business owners, we have a tendency to look at someone who is successful, who knows their message, is clear about their message and offers, and it seems like they have always been that way.

We fall into the trap of believing that if we don’t have that same clarity as we start out, we’ll never measure up — perhaps we don’t have what it takes.

In truth, ‘overnight’ sensations are YEARS in the making. And they don’t do it alone.

We each contain within us the capability of being that ‘overnight’ sensation. The more we truly understand this, the more we truly allow ourselves to accept our brilliance, the faster that overnight sensation will happen.

A Fertile Business Gives You Freedom

When I think about the main gift of a Fertile Business, it’s all about freedom:

Freedom to live life on your terms and from your values.
Freedom from worry, stress, and anxiety.
Freedom to receive the prosperity, which will allow you to do what fills you with joy.
Freedom to run your business in a way that brings you joy.

However, the road to freedom doesn’t always feel easy.

Creating your Fertile Business calls you to be aware of your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. Often we are caught in the thought that because we need to be aware, we also need to FIX them in the moment.

Sometimes doing healing work on underlying thoughts and beliefs is needed.

Sometimes, we simply just need to be more kind to ourselves.

I love this Lovingkindness Meditation from Thich Naht Hahn. Next time you are feeling overwhelmed, or aware that your mind is filling with thoughts that don’t match the life you want to create, repeat these phrases three times and feel the peace begin to flow through your body:

May I be filled with loving kindness
May I be well
May I be peaceful and at ease
May I be happy

Do You Trust the Process?

A key component to creating a Fertile Business is starting with the end in mind: what do you really want? What do you want your life to look like? How do you want to feel while you are serving your clients? What are the key values that need to be present?

When you stay in vibrational alignment with your vision of what you want, you receive inspired actions that will lead to your vision unfolding.

One small factor that can throw you completely out of the process: Time.

Sometimes what you want to create takes time. Knowing this intellectually is one thing; being able to continue to have faith in the unfolding when physical evidence piles up around you that seems to say, “this isn’t working,” is another.

When that physical evidence isn’t changing, the natural reaction is to say, “This isn’t working. Time to push a little harder, time to work a little harder, time to give a little more effort.” As soon as you do this, you start cutting yourself off from your connection to your inner wisdom and your focus on what you really want to create goes away.

“In your action, you lose sight of the vision. You lose sight of your trust in the process and you just bang around in a sense of futility. Hold the vision and trust that the Universe will acclimate to your vision. Hold the vision and trust the process.”

If you find yourself having difficulty trusting the process, here are some questions to ask yourself, so you can gain clarity about what you can heal within yourself to be able to step more fully into trust:

Does the Universe really “have my back”?
Am I completely safe in this world?
Is life really about living in joy?
Am I good enough, valuable enough, right now, in this moment, to deserve my wants?
Are we all really supposed to have what we want?

The closer you can get to answering a full and complete YES to these questions, the easier it will become to trust the process, hold your vision, and come into vibrational alignment with your Fertile Business (and life).

Why Do We Manifest Lack?

If we live in an abundant universe, and money is just energy, and we are Source and therefore have access to all the resources of Source…then why do we still experience lack?

If the key to running a successful business is to have structures, marketing tools, connections to Social Media, a list, and making offers, why do we do all of that and STILL experience lack?

We humans are such funny creatures! We take the gift of Free Will and we use it to create all kinds of conditions to receive. Our outer world is a manifestation of our inner world. Always. If there is lack of something showing up in your business or your daily life, there is a part of you that is carrying a lack belief.

Not good enough. Not loveable. Not safe. Unimportant.

However, instead of recognizing that the external is just a mirror of the internal, we desperately push for the external conditions to change first, so we can finally have the evidence we need to feel good about ourselves.

Waiting until you have proof simply doesn’t work. Even if you are able to create enough action to drive some income into your checking account, as long as the internal beliefs are still out of alignment with abundance, the flow will not be sustainable. You just end up stuck and in lack all over again.

The way to keeping a sustainable flow is to come into alignment with what is really true: you are good enough. You are loveable. You are safe. You matter to Source.

These aren’t just esoteric self-help statements. These are the building blocks that when assembled, create the firm foundation that will lead to the fertile business and life you desire.

When you heal the internal lack, the external lack evaporates and in a very sustainable way. At some level, healing the internal lack is all about making the decision to do it. And yet, it’s often not as simple as someone telling you that you must do it and you just say, “Oh, okay. Now I love myself.”

But when you get enough gunk cleared out of the way to shift your consciousness, you are able, one step at a time, to keep making the choice, making the decision, being the person who is love, who is enough, who is safe, and who does matter.

Then, evidence of your very fertile life and business shows up in droves and lack shifts to prosperity.
