Do Not Make It About The Money

While there is enough fodder within last week’s huge college admission cheating scandal for me to write 100 newsletters or blog posts, here is what I DON’T want you to take from it.

Do not make it about the money.

Sound ridiculous? I mean after all, money seems to be the heart of the problem.

Bribes.
Donations to a fake charity.
BUYING your child’s way into the ‘perfect’ college.

If people didn’t have absurd amounts of money, these kinds of things wouldn’t happen, right?

Nodding your head along with that last statement?

I have to disagree.

This is how convoluted and harmful beliefs about money are born. Money isn’t the problem; money is simply the tool that allows the real problem to be seen.

The real problem?

Power being sourced out of disconnection rather than connection.
A belief that there is only one “right” way to get ahead.
The belief that “getting ahead” is the right focus.
A belief that there is one right school for everyone.
Emphasizing the destination over purpose and passion.

And the one belief that sums it all up.

Believing power lies in the external rather than the internal.

However, when these kinds of over the top scandals happen, everyone is quick to blame the money and another layer gets added to the (usually) unconscious belief we carry about money.

Money is dangerous.
Money is bad / evil.
I don’t EVER want to be tempted.
Money will change me.

When we do this, we only make it more difficult to create money for ourselves. Who would want to have money if that’s the energy of it?

Here’s what I want the response to be.

Money is just a tool for me to use. The more conscious I am in my own connection, the more conscious I am about the energy of money. The more conscious I am about my value and core Truths, the more I can interact with money in joyful and uplifting ways for myself and the planet. Anything that appears otherwise is simply an opportunity for me to go deeper into my own connection.

Imagine how different the world would be if THIS was the collective belief about money?

Are You Aligning or Ignoring?

Do you ever have those moments of feeling, “Wow, I’m really handling this in a Spiritual way,” …and then have an ah-ha moment that makes you realize otherwise?

Yeah, me too.

I had a situation come up last week where I found myself feeling disappointed I hadn’t met a certain financial goal in a specific area. I found myself yelling at the Universe:

“I did all the steps. I was specific about what I wanted. I focused on the feeling. I let it go while still honoring and creating the feeling in my daily life. So come on Universe, where is it?”

In the middle of my temper tantrum (yes, I’ll admit to that), I had a funny feeling come over me. I was yelling at the Universe and having an ah-ha moment all at the same time.

Yes, it was true I had “followed the formula.” I had thought the correct thoughts. I had done the “obligatory” feeling creation. But at the same time, I was still having a lot of disbelief around this particular way of creating money. The disbelief created some sensations of fear.

Because I KNOW I am not “supposed” to have the fear, I started ignoring the feelings as they came up. I reassured myself I had done “the work” and they didn’t matter.

The ignoring didn’t serve me in any way. While you don’t want fear to paint you into a corner, it actually does serve a useful function. Fear was showing me I wasn’t in alignment with what I wanted.

Fear was trying to get my attention and show me:

I still believed more in the fear than in the ability of the Universe to support me.

I believed more in the fear than in the unfolding of this particular situation in divine right timing.

I believed more in the fear than I did in my Inner Capital, which was right there, ready to shine and bring this project to fruition.

I was so confident in my spiritual approach, I ignored all the signals I wasn’t in alignment. No judgment.

I say over and over again that money is a huge teacher in my life — and it certainly didn’t disappoint in this situation. Having moved through the situation, I am appreciative of the opportunity to fine tune the parts of my belief system, which were out of alignment with the creation I desired. Without the signals, I would simply keep recreating the same situation.

Take a moment and think about what you want to create. Are you more in alignment with the belief of the power of the Universe to bring your desire or the fear you won’t receive?

Making Peace with Empty

This month’s Conscious Prosperity Community theme is Letting Go.

What happens when you let go of something? When you release something? You end up with an empty space.

That empty space can feel a little frightening.

Think of the word empty — what does it call up to you? Empty space. Empty container. Empty stomach. Empty bank account.

The connotations aren’t so pretty are they?

But those connotations are based on old thinking. Old knowing. One more aspect I am inviting you to release this month.

Empty is actually the first stage of potential.

Empty gives rise to desire.

Desire gives rise to ideas.

Ideas give rise to manifestation of something new.

Empty is possibility. Empty is room for more. Empty is open.

The only way that empty remains frightening is by spending your time getting swallowed up into believing the emptiness and believing the emptiness is a sign of who you are (not enough) or a sign of what is to be (nothing).

Let empty be your sign that you are ready and open and willing for more. Let empty be your signal to amplify your belief in who you are and anticipate the new unfolding of your potential.

Make peace with empty and allow it to lead you to the fullness of your Being.

What’s ready to go?

According to numerology, 2016 is a “9” year. A year of completions. A year of completing the old to make way for the new.

As we rapidly approach the end of 2016 (I know it’s only September, but it will be New Year’s Eve before we know it), what are you ready to complete in terms of prosperity, abundance, and money?

Cottonwood TreeI’ve been spending a lot of time down on the banks of the Mississippi these days, allowing myself to fill my body with the knowing of flow.

On my latest visit, I noticed the beautiful cottonwood trees which line the banks. Because the sand and shore are constantly eroding and moving, many trees have yards and yards of exposed roots.

The more the shore erodes, the deeper the roots burrow into the surrounding areas. At some point, the roots will run out of room because they will be blocked by the majestic bluffs which characterize this part of the river landscape. The tree will fall, making room for the new saplings which are growing up around the old growth.

Some of these trees look like they are barely holding on, ready to topple at any moment. The branches and leaves don’t look so good because there isn’t enough nutrition. And yet, it still holds; that’s what trees do.

As you consider what is completing for you in terms of abundance and money, I invite you to think about the habits and beliefs that are ready to go… and yet you cling to them because that’s what you do.

We make a lot of perseverance and hardship. We celebrate it. We reward it. We believe we will get rewarded if only we suffer enough. If we only hang on by our fingernails long enough, something will come in and rescue us, celebrate us for holding on for so long, proclaiming us worthy of all that we want.

Okay, perhaps I should substitute “I” instead of “we” in the preceding paragraph because sitting on the river banks among these beautiful trees, in the flow of this powerful river, it is the message I received.

While I have invited joy and ease into many aspects of my life, there’s another layer that is oh so ready to be released. What makes that realization easier to first admit, and then honor, is the knowing that like the small saplings around the base of an old tree, there is a new belief, a new knowing that is ready to take root and soar when it receives the abundance of attention once the old layer is released.

Take advantage of the potent energy growing as we move into the final quarter of this year of completion. What’s ready to release so the new knowing of prosperity and abundance can fully take root for you?

Two Love Lessons from Money

You will not find a more complicated, tangled intersection of topics than love and money.

Yet, money is the perfect teacher for allowing in love.

Money’s roots are in the world of the Divine. Priestesses used to be in charge of creating coins; they understood the sacredness of the gold and silver. They understood the source of money is the Divine. You may have physical action that brings you dollars, but the source of those dollars is the Divine.

That makes the core energy of money the Divine. What is the core energy of the Divine? Love.

Money, at its energetic foundation, is Love.

The beautiful quality of money, which amplifies its ability to be a great teacher, is that it is tangible. You can touch it. Feel it. Count it. This tangibility creates an incredible opportunity for learning because your actions are completely measureable.

Money has much to teach us about how we interact with love.

Lesson #1: Conditional vs. Unconditional

How often have you strived for your love of others and/or self to be unconditional?

What does unconditional love even mean? Let’s start with a classic example. Like countless other couples, I used the Corinthians verse in my marriage ceremony:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

But what does this look like? How does love like this show up in our lives? How do we truly live this?

Now we get to bring in money as a teacher.

What if you experienced Divine Love expressed as money unconditionally? What if you replaced the word “love” with “money”:

Money is patient, money is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Money does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

How many hot buttons does this push for you?

Most of us do not experience money unconditionally. We place many conditions on our ability to interact with money: I’ll only love money if it shows up under the “right” conditions. If I’ve been good enough. If it was for a good reason. If I haven’t hurt someone else in the process of getting it. If I don’t get judged for having it. If I manage it well. If I don’t screw it up. If I use it in the right way for the right things for the right people.

What are the conditions you place on money? How do those conditions shed light for you on how you place conditions on other forms of love?

Allow money to be the example for you about where you fall on the spectrum of conditional / unconditional when it comes to allowing love.

Lesson #2 Receiving

How much love can you hold? Love exists in the dynamic of giving and receiving. Many of us are skilled in the giving… not so much in the receiving.

How much love can you receive before you start feeling uncomfortable?

Let’s bring money in again as a teacher.

Without judgment, ask yourself: How open am I to receiving love in the form of money?

Part of your answer may be due to the conditions that we, as a culture, have placed on money. We’ve buried our core, internal understanding of money and focused instead on the external achievement of money. We’ve created all kinds of meaning about that achievement. We’ve made it about status. About power. The giving of money as a substitute for being present. As a measuring stick for how much we love someone. As a substitute for sharing ourselves and our love with others.

Who wants to be open to receive more of that dynamic?

So to be able to fully answer the question about receiving, try a quick exercise first. Imagine that you have a gigantic pile of money sitting in front of you. Allow a wave of divine light to wash over, around and through that pile of money. Allow that money to be completely cleansed of anything other than the original energetic foundation of money.

Now, how much of that clean pile of money are you willing to receive? What’s the number that trips you up? 10,000? 100,000? 1,000,000?

The amount itself doesn’t matter; there is no “right” amount of money.

Notice instead how your body feels as you begin to reach the edges of your comfort zone. What part of your Being needs to stretch in order to allow in more money? To allow in more love?

Living the Love Lessons from Money

In my experience, those of us who are walking a spiritual path tend to battle with money.

And believe me, I get it.

At the same time, money is simply one of the expressions of the Divine. When we start parsing out the kinds of love that are “good” and the kinds of love that are “bad,” we accidently shut down our ability to receive even the “good” kind.

We place limits on our hearts and on our experiences. Those limits begin to shut down and cover up our own divine expression.

Whether or not you have a desire to have more money in your day-to-day life, allow money to share its deep wisdom with you.

Explore the edges of your comfort zone. Become aware of the conditions you place on love and on receiving love.

Receive these love lessons from money and you will allow more love in.

A Key to Blending Heart and Prosperity

One of the biggest stumbling blocks heart centered people run into as they ask to bring more prosperity into their lives is they don’t want to allow money to dominate their decisions or their passion. In other words, “I don’t want money to end up being my motivator.”

As I was beginning my business, I would have been the first to emphatically raise my hand if someone asked if this were a concern. After all, it feels like money and heart have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Except, they actually have everything do with each other when you run a heart centered business.

The more you put the stop sign up for money, the more you are putting the stop sign up for flow in your business. The reason for this is: the fastest way to create flow in your heart centered business is to get really clear on the benefits of what you are offering others.

The more you have clarity on the benefits, the more you are able to a) amplify your belief in what you have to offer and b) amplify the expectation that what you offer will help those who are part of your tribe.

Belief and expectation is the engine of the Universe. These being-states are highly magnetic; they attract your tribe and your tribe honors your service through an exchange of money.

If you are consciously or unconsciously saying STAY AWAY MONEY, you are putting a huge kink in your flow of not only money, but also the people who you are here on this planet to serve.

You don’t need to make money your main motivator to allow more money to flow into your experience.

What you do get to do, if you are willing, is to have a better and better understanding of who you are as a Soul and what you are on this planet to offer. Spend your time amplifying your knowing of who you are. Stand firmly in your gifts and talents, and honor the transformation you are offering others. Not everyone will be interested and that is actually for the best. That simply means you are fully living YOU and attracting those who need your offer.

When you build your belief in yourself based on your gifts and talents at the soul level, ego gets to stay out of the picture. You offer your services from your heart and you get to fully enjoy the sumptuous life built from doing what you love and providing real, tangible transformation for those whose lives you touch.

Prosperity Trap: Expectation vs Entitlement

When you expect to receive what you want, is that good manifesting or is that entitlement?

I’ve had several clients over the last few weeks really tussle with this question. Their thoughts go something like this: “If I expect to have what I want, then I’m that person, the one who thinks I’m better than everyone else, the one who thinks they should have everything they want. A spoiled brat.”

Hmmm. At what point in our lives did we mix up having wants with being a nasty person?

You are hard wired to want; this is what moves the Universe forward. As you discover a new want, you get into alignment with the vibration required to allow that want into your life. As a result, you expand and so does the Universe.

Expectation is part of the process of getting into alignment. You have a positive belief, an expectation that what you want is on its way.

So how did we get so out of alignment with expectation?

We have all had experiences with people who use their ability to have what they want as a weapon; people who measure their inner worth with their outer “stuff”; people who view material collections as a measure of their perceived power. We see them as selfish and heartless and disconnected from the real world.

We say, “I never want to be like THAT,” and just like that, we’ve created a separation between us and how the Universe delivers our good.

Stepping into expectation doesn’t make you a person who thinks you are entitled.

Stepping into expectation allows you to dance with the Universe. Stepping into expectation requires you to deepen your trust and belief in the Universe. Stepping into expectation allows you to hold a positive belief the Universe has your back.

Stepping into expectation is about expansion — of you, your Divine connection, and your heart.

If this is a conversation that resonates with you, I invite you to ask yourself a couple of questions:

~ In my life, whom do I view as entitled? In other words, who am I trying not to be?
~ How am I like/not like that person?
~ How can shifting into expectation serve me?

Be Vibrant!

May I ask you a question?

What would you like in your life that would make your life fuller? Juicier? More vibrant? (I’d LOVE to know your answers. Would you share them with me here?

What keeps you from being this fuller, juicier, vibrant you?

Often, the answer to that question: Fear. Fear of how life will change. Fear of what people will think. Fear of the other new choices you’ll make.

These are fears that can be hard to root out.

One of the very sneaky ways fear shows up is through money. Ego, that part of us which is most happy with status quo because it believes that is the safest way to live, says, “If there isn’t enough money, then I won’t have the resources to do what I need to do in order to be more vibrant. It’ safer to just be living on the edge, living paycheck to paycheck. Then I don’t have to worry about it.”

Doesn’t make sense to the conscious mind, but our Ego is quite satisfied knowing that life will stay safe by staying the same.

All of this can get overwhelming: how do I change? What are the exact beliefs I need to root out? How do I really make a change?

First step: Choose. Choose with every fiber of your being. Choose to be vibrant. Make it your intention every single morning and every moment during the day when evidence presents itself that seems to prove otherwise.

Print this picture out and stick it where you will see it first thing in the morning and last thing before you go to bed.

Choose to be Vibrant

Are You “Shoulding” on Yourself?

Do you should on yourself? You know, “I should be doing this…”, or, “This isn’t how it should be….” Oftentimes we “should” on other people or situations that don’t personally involve us.

I don’t as much as I used to, but recently I was feeling really frustrated and found that at the core of the frustration was a judgment about the way things “should” be happening.

When we get caught up in the “should” of a situation, we’re usually a) in judgment and b) feel like there is an exact right and an exact wrong. Not only that, but we push out the Divine as our mind has decided it is going to run the show. As we are caught up into this pattern, business slows because we aren’t tapped into our deep well of creativity, instead the mind is keeping us inside a very strong box.

When you find yourself in a place of “shoulding,” take a breath. Allow your consciousness to flow deep within your body and ask to be connected with your Divine self. Ask this part what you get to let go of in order to move forward.

The more you do this, the more you’ll find you have access to your creativity and to the miracles available to you through the Divine.

Action Gets All the Glory

It’s like in soccer: the person who scores the goal gets to do the victory slide on their knees and tends to receive the glory. However, if you know anything about the game, you know everyone on the team, from the defense on forward, was integral in putting the ball in position to be scored. To be sure, the last player needs to know how to “finish,” a skill in and of itself, but a goal takes the whole team.

Taking action in your business or life is the same way; action is the final step, the step when we finally get to see results. However, if you want results that match all your values, action is only the final step.

Too often, when we want different results in our business, we jump into a new project, a new activity. In this case, we make action the first step, not the last. Usually, in these kinds of action steps, action is being driven by fear (fear that we won’t have enough). Action out of fear never ends well; I’ve put in enough personal experience in this one to be definite about that statement.

My invitation to you today is to tune into the part of you that wants to take immediate action. What is the motivation? What underlying belief or emotion are you trying to satisfy with action?

Next, I invite you to step out of thinking about physical action, to step out of using your mind to figure out “what’s next” and instead, tap into your deeper intuition with the following imagery exercise.

Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Imagine for a moment you are standing on a topographical map of your ideal business, a business that fulfills you in all ways.

Your map may be full of images, words, or symbols. Simply allow whatever image speaks to you, to come to mind. You don’t even have to know what that image means to you right now, just allow it to form.

First, notice where you are on your map. What’s around you? What’s pulling you? What do you hear? What do you see? What do you feel like needs to be done?

Now you notice you are beginning to be lifted up until you find yourself gently floating over the top of your map. From this view, what do you notice? What draws your attention? What paths are highlighted?

Finally, ask, “What is the next action I should take?” Perhaps it’s a specific activity. Perhaps it’s more time for reflection and connection. Trust what comes and then set an intention to follow these steps.

As you allow your intuition, your connection with the wise part of you, to inform your physical action steps, your final outcome will thrill you, and you will have all the evidence you need to see the real story behind the glory of action.
