The Rabbit Hole of Fear

Have you noticed that even in the meta-physical world, opposing viewpoints are more the norm than the exception?

For example: visualization. Some say to be super specific and see all the details. Others tell you to focus in the realm of feelings and let Source bring you more than you could ever imagine for yourself.

Handling fear has the same seeming contradictions. Viewpoints range from “the only way to erase fear is through action” to “never act when you are in a place of fear.”

I tend to resonate more on the end of the spectrum, which includes not acting from a place of fear. The business I generate when I act from a place of fear…not pretty! Yet, I would never have gotten as far in my business if I hadn’t completed a few actions that had me quaking inside.

From the number of conversations I have with colleagues and clients, I know I’m not alone. Fear is definitely an emotion that is present for those of us running our own businesses.

So, what’s the answer?

Not all fear is created equal; therefore, there isn’t just one source. Therefore, there isn’t one simple answer.

Sometimes, the source of fear is Ego, screaming loudly, telling us we are in immediate danger. Ego never wants change. Ego likes things to stay the same (even if the current events are miserable). Same is safe.

Sometimes, fear is our intuition, telling us something is off; we are chasing something that we really don’t want or need.

Sometimes fear is our greatest tool, helping us uncover the old false beliefs that are continuing to run our lives.

The only way to know the source of your fear is to step back into stillness. To connect with Source, Universe, God, Goddess. To come back to your intuition.

This is the first action step to take whenever fear is present. This connection will help you see the Truth of the fear you are feeling and give you exactly what you need to know in order to move forward.

There is much more about fear to discuss. For now, I’d love to share this Rumi poem I happened across today:

Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.

Don’t try to see through the distances.
That’s not for human beings.

Move within, but don’t move the way fear makes you move.

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.
