Wanting + Vulnerability
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about desire and wanting more. In my most recent Abundance that Stays YouTube episode, I talked about the question: Is it actually okay to want more? To want more freedom or love or abundance.
Most of us have complicated relationships with that question.
But something I’ve been noticing recently is that sometimes the hardest part isn’t admitting the desire. The hardest part is living in the space where the desire exists, but life hasn’t caught up yet.
That space can feel incredibly vulnerable. Once you let yourself want something, you’re standing in the space between wanting it and having it.
Depending on how long it takes to move from wanting to having, the mind often tries to explain that space in the harshest possible way: Maybe something is wrong with me. If I were just more (skilled, worthy, enough), then it would be here by now.
And, boy, is it super easy to fall down that spiral of thought. I still wrestle with it at times.
I’ve come to think of that moment as a kind of threshold. A place where desire is showing us something real about the direction of our lives, but our systems are still learning how to hold the expansion that desire implies.
I don’t think this moment means our desires are wrong.
I think it means we’re standing at the edge of something we haven’t yet learned to receive. And that simply means that we are having a human experience. We are standing in the place of our Soul calling us forward and we are learning to expand into it. We are learning to hold the new level of worth and enoughness that we are being called into.
This gets easier and easier as we know more about how to activate our own internal receiving architecture.
