What’s your relationship with possibility?
What’s your relationship with possibility? Meaning, how willing are you to believe in what you want even when life is life-ing? Even when the evidence around you isn’t being particularly supportive? Even when you’ve been striving for a particular goal for a long time?
These are questions I’ve been playing with for the last several months, both for myself and for my clients.
Personally, this summer has been full of endings. Some intentional, some not so intentional. Some easy to breathe through, some not so much. As I’ve had space and time to process, what I’ve discovered is that the more I can stay in relationship with possibility, the easier the transition.
When I’m out of relationship with possibility, the thoughts in my head go something like:
What did I do wrong?
Is this just how life is going to be from this point forward?
Maybe this is just as good as it’s going to get.
In short, I use the experience as prophecy; this is how it is, this is how it is going to be for all time. When I get into that head space, it’s like I can barely breathe; the thoughts have me completely locked down and in fear. Fear becomes a spiral that holds me firmly in place. No movement. Like I’m standing in a closet facing the wall.
However, when I am able to stay in relationship with possiblity, then the thoughts go something like:
Hmm, I wonder what is here for me.
I wonder what I don’t know yet.
I wonder if there’s support I haven’t asked for yet.
I wonder if I’ve been pushing instead of listening and receiving.
In this head space, the access to my wisdom is wide open. My breath comes easily. Even though I don’t have the answer, I know the answer is *there* and will drop in with right timing. As I await the answer from this head space, there’s more peace and ease and perhaps even joy. BEFORE anything changes.
One of the biggest things I’m taking from this summer is that my ability to create a more sumptuous life has a lot to do with my willingness to stay in relationship with possibility.
Listen, I still want what I want. I want the money. I want my business to thrive. I want joy and freedom and experiences that aren’t part of my life yet. What I’m interested in is living toward those desires instead of allowing today’s circumstances to convince me they aren’t possible.
How about you?
Can you stay in relationship with possibility while something is still becoming? Can you hold genuine expectation of goodness without turning it into entitlement about exactly what must happen and when? Can you hear what your Soul and the Divine are saying when fear has gotten really, really loud?
I’d love to help you navigate this for yourself.
If you’ve been working toward something you deeply desire and find yourself bouncing between possibility and the fear that it may never happen, I’d love to help you find your way back to possibility and discover what becomes available from there.
I’m opening a few spaces for a private series of three Possibility Sessions. Send me an email with POSSIBILITY and I’ll send you the details.
