Stop asking money to nourish you
If your goal was to be an orange juice vendor, what would you do?
Would you stand at empty trees and lament that there were no oranges? Shake your fist at the heavens and ask, “Why me? Why aren’t my trees covered in oranges?”
No, you’d learn about which nutrients need to be in the soil, ways to keep pests away, and how to nourish the trees’ roots so they can absorb what they need from the ground. You’d ask if your field had the right kind of sun exposure. Figure out how to protect blossoms when the weather got too cold or too hot.
In other words, you’d focus on the trees’ vitality and allow the oranges to grow. Yes, you’d have an eye on the outcome (oranges), but the majority of your energy and focus would be on nurturing the trees’ relationship with Nature. The oranges themselves don’t nourish the tree; they are the result of the tree being tended and nourished.
Money works much the same way. The numbers in your bank account reflect something deeper than your financial habits alone. It reflects your relationship with yourself, with the Divine, and with life. When you tend those roots, money has a way to grow.
Somewhere along the way, many of us began treating the money as though it were the source of our goodness. We believe that if we can just make more money, get more clients, fix the relationship, or finally reach the goal, then we’ll feel safe, settled, and enough.
Just like oranges don’t nourish the tree, money was never intended to nourish us. Money is an outcome of nourishing ourselves.
Stop asking money to nourish you. To make you safe. To make you happy. To make you relived. To make you enough. There is no amount of money that will ever provide any of those for you.
Now, if you’re saying, “But Jennifer, I don’t do any of that. I just want to be able to travel. Retire. Have the home I want. I’m not asking money to do any of that for me. I just want to feel free from the weight of not having what I want”, believe me, I hear you loud and clear.
And, when you give money the job of releasing the weight of not having what you want, you’re focusing on the oranges again.
The key to creating all you want lies in nurturing your relationship with yourself, the Divine, and life itself; rooting in your own sacredness instead of outcomes (and then the outcomes are free to come flooding in).
